A University of Maryland survey has found that just last winter in the United States, 50 billion bees were wiped out and of the main reasons is the high demand for almond milk.
Bees are essential to the almond milk growing process, but the high demand for the milk is placing strain on the hives, causing these billions of bees to die of exhaustion.
Ecology professor at Canterbury University Jason Tylianakis joins Tim Dower to explain further.
