Spoiled food served to passengers as part of their in-flight service led to a Delta Airlines plane making an emergency landing.
On Wednesday, Delta Airlines flight 136 departed Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport in Michigan, United States for the Netherlands.
But when 鈥渟poiled鈥 food was found the flight diverted to JFK airport in New York City, the airline said.
According to data from the online flight tracker Flightradar24, it was almost three hours into the flight, close to the Gulf of St Lawrence, when the Airbus A330-323 aircraft started to turn around.
鈥淒elta flight 136 from Detroit to Amsterdam diverted to New York鈥檚 JFK early Wednesday morning after reports that a portion of the Main Cabin in-flight meal service were spoiled,鈥 a Delta Airlines spokesperson said in a statement.
The airline confirmed that passengers were greeted by medical personnel to 鈥渢reat any affected passengers and crew members鈥.

According to ABC7, 277 passengers were on board the flight - though it is not yet known how many digested the food or if anyone had shown signs of possible food poisoning.
A spokesperson for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey told the Daily Mail: 鈥淭here were 24 aided cases upon landing, including 10 members of the flight crew and 14 passengers, all of whom declined to receive medical attention.鈥
鈥淧assengers were provided with hotel rooms and transportation and will be rebooked to continue to their destination,鈥 the spokesperson added.

鈥淍delta I need to know how you鈥檙e going to get me to Amsterdam today - I鈥檓 on the plane that鈥檚 emergency landing at JFK because you served passengers 鈥榗ontaminated鈥 food - I don鈥檛 need hotel/food vouchers I need to arrive in Amsterdam today,鈥 she wrote.
It isn鈥檛 the first time Delta Airlines has had to divert an international flight for health reasons.
