  • A 14-year-old  girl was approached by a naked man performing a sex act in a van.
  •  are investigating the incident in Epsom near Manukau Rd.
  • The van鈥檚 driver is described as a Caucasian male, aged between 40 and 50, with blonde hair.

A 14-year-old girl is 鈥渞eally shaken鈥 after a naked man performing a sex act pulled up beside her in a beat-up van as she walked home from school.

The Auckland girl鈥檚 father, who asked not to be named, made an appeal on a community social media page after searching for the man himself when his daughter came home distressed.

He said she got off the school bus at the Royal Oak end of Manukau Rd and was beginning her short walk home.

鈥淪he was followed by a man with shoulder-length hair driving an old, rusty, beige van.

鈥淎s he pulled up next to her she saw that he was naked and touching himself.

鈥淪he didn鈥檛 get a plate number, unfortunately, she was obviously panicking and running away.鈥

The family has been living in the area for eight years and the incident was a first.

鈥淪he ran into my mother-in-law鈥檚 place, which is directly across the road from us.

鈥淔or me, it鈥檚 completely out of the blue. We鈥檝e never experienced anything like this.鈥

After his daughter was home safe, the dad scoured the streets for the man.

鈥淚 was shocked, yeah, pretty upset for her,

鈥淚 actually jumped in my car and then tried to look for the van or the guy, [but I] couldn鈥檛 find him.鈥

The girl had been 鈥渟haken鈥 and too upset to go to school the next day.

鈥淢y partner took her to school and dropped off her younger brother, and then she was on her way to school, and she just broke down, so she鈥檚 back home now.鈥

Detective Senior Sergeant Martin Friend confirmed police were investigating 鈥渁 man doing an indecent act in the Epsom area鈥.

鈥淎 van was parked on Gladwin Rd at around 3.35pm, when the male occupant began doing the act towards a student walking past.鈥

The van began moving in the same direction as the student and was last seen travelling down Lewin Rd. The driver did not get out of the vehicle.

Friend said police would like to hear from anyone with further information about the van or its driver.

鈥淚t has been described as an older style van, which was light coloured.

鈥淭he driver has been described as a Caucasian male, aged between 40 and 50. He was slim build, with blonde hair down to his neckline.鈥

The father didn鈥檛 think there were any 鈥渙vert safety concerns鈥 in the immediate area, but the incident was particularly concerning as there were several schools in the area.

鈥淚 think this creep is just an opportunist.

鈥淏ut by and large, I wouldn鈥檛 let a 14-year-old girl walk down, say, Queen Street by herself in the afternoon.鈥

He felt there was 鈥渘ot much鈥 they could do other than contact police about the 鈥渙pportunistic, predatory behaviour鈥.

鈥淩ight now we probably don鈥檛 want to let the kids walk around by themselves [anymore], but you know that is, at the moment, I think understandable knee-jerk reaction.

鈥淲e鈥檝e never felt unsafe like this.鈥

If you have information contact police on 105 using the reference number 250212/5501 or anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
