Takapuna beach has been closed since yesterday afternoon due to a high health risks due to poor water quality.
However, Watercare have since said tests of the water did not show signs of sewage contamination.
Lifeguards shut down the beach at 3.30pm yesterday when a fault in the wastewater network caused a storm water drain to overflow.
The flags were taken down and the beach was closed for swimming for the remainder of the day听
Watercare spokesperson Ramari Young said the event reported at Takapuna Beach was not a wastewater overflow and is separate from Watercare's network.
Earlier, people at Takapuna Beach were horrified to find out the water has a high health risk and the beach was closed, as no signs warning the public had been displayed.
Auckland Council's听听website said Takapuna Beach has a temporary no-swim warning due to poor water quality leading to an elevated health risk
