Several of TVNZ鈥檚 biggest stars are fronting a new PR campaign, Save Our Stories, to fight job and show cuts.

Sunday听host Miriama Kamo,听Fair Go听host Garth Bray,听Breakfast听host Anna Burns-Francis and听Q+A听host Jack Tame are among the first of seven TVNZ names fronting a new video released today.

The others are senior journalists Barbara Dreaver and Indira Stewart and Re: 九一星空无限 journalist Zoe Madden-Smith.

Kamo opens the video by saying: 鈥淲ith newsrooms closing across the country, we could understand it if you thought 鈥榮ucks to be you鈥. But the truth is, without newsrooms, without programmes like听Sunday,Fair Go听and Re: 九一星空无限, it鈥檒l suck to be all of us.

鈥淭his is not just about job losses for us. This is about losing the ability to tell your stories.鈥

Burns-Francis: 鈥淎nd as our newsrooms diminish, so too does our ability to tell the stories that matter to New Zealanders.鈥

Dreaver: 鈥淭he stories which uplift and celebrate our successes, but also those which hold powerful people to account and advocate for change.鈥

E t奴 negotiation specialist Michael Wood said the Save Our Stories campaign was a response to last week鈥檚 announcement of a proposal for significant cuts across the TVNZ workforce, including cutting听Fair Go,听Sunday, the听Midday听and听Tonight听bulletins and 鈥済utting鈥 Re: 九一星空无限.

鈥淲e鈥檙e bringing together workers, viewers, and supporters to remind TVNZ of their purpose and responsibilities,鈥 said Wood.

鈥淭VNZ isn鈥檛 just some business, it鈥檚 a vital part of our society and Kiwis need a strong TVNZ to tell Aotearoa鈥檚 stories and hold power to account.鈥

Wood said: 鈥淭his is about everyone 鈥 every single New Zealander is a stakeholder in this, so we invite everybody who wants to build and protect a strong media landscape to support the campaign.鈥

The campaign has been launched with a video featuring people from across TVNZ鈥檚 workforce, and an open letter.

鈥淪o many people have reached out to our union to show their support for TVNZ workers and ask how they can help. From prominent public figures, to people whose lives have been changed thanks to TVNZ鈥檚 coverage, to dedicated viewers who don鈥檛 want to see their favourite shows get the axe,鈥 said Wood.

鈥淭hese people can help by signing the open letter, sharing our video, and sending the message to decision-makers that our media is worth protecting.鈥

TVNZ has been approached for comment.

Last night, ahead of the launch, a spokeswoman听said: 鈥淲e understand E t奴 plans to launch a public campaign from statements they鈥檝e made recently. We don鈥檛 have any information on what this entails so we鈥檙e not in a position to comment on it.鈥
