More jobs could be on the line with Solid Energy calling a meeting with workers on the West Coast.
Workers from the Stockton mine will meet with managers at 3:30pm on Thursday.
West Coast Labour MP Damien O'Connor says he understands it will be details of another restructure which would affect an unknown number of jobs.
"I think any reduction of jobs will be a shock. We have to keep our fingers crossed and hope for the least impact across the board."
He says it will be another hit for Buller, but the business sector is looking at how to minimise any impact.
"We have to remain optimistic, and the community is planning for alternative jobs. We've got to do everything we can to mitigate the impact these job losses might have."
"The West Coast will survive, it's going to be hard work and it will be a shock to all those people who might have to lose their job."
