
The victim of a suspected homicide in Christchurch is understood to be the son of a gang member killed in an execution-style slaying almost three decades ago.
Tonight police named the man who died at a block of flats in Mairehau on Sunday as 39-year-old Tyrone Munns, from the area.
Emergency services rushed to the scene on Innes Rd about 9.15pm on Sunday where he was found with critical injuries. Despite urgent treatment, he died at the scene.
A homicide investigation has been launched and police say they are still working to establish what happened leading up to his death.
Tyrone is understood to be the son of Nomad gangster Malcolm Munns, himself the victim of a killing in 1997 by a Highway 61 man.

Police forensic specialists arrived to conduct a scene examination on Monday. Scene guards were in place at the address.
鈥淲e are still looking to speak to anyone who may have heard or seen anything suspicious in Innes Rd between 8pm and 9.15pm on Sunday, March 9,鈥 a police spokesperson said.

Complex has some 鈥榬eal characters鈥
The incident took place at a social housing complex.
Des Banks, owner of the Flower Bazaar shop across the road from the scene, said it has some 鈥渞eal characters鈥 who come into the shop from time to time.
鈥淭here鈥檚 always something going on over there, the police have been there prior to this on multiple occasions,鈥 he said.
Banks said he believes police are there at least once a month.
鈥淚t鈥檚 a bit scary knowing we鈥檙e so close and we live just around the corner,鈥 he said.
Police have not yet taken anyone into custody regarding the incident, which Banks said was concerning.
鈥淭here could be somebody out there that鈥檚 angry and upset,鈥 he said.
