Dramatic scenes inside and outside Christchurch District court today.
Three people had their assault charges upgraded to murder after a man found with serious head injuries outside Sumner Surf Lifesaving club on Thursday night died yesterday.
After his appearance, 20-year-old Cyle Robert Jetson left the dock and lunged at those sitting in the public gallery.
It took six police officers to restrain Jetson, as he yelled and resisted handcuffs.
Meanwhile, up to ten police cars and more than a dozen officers were called as back up while one of the accused murderer’s family erupted outside the courthouse.
Jetson and 38-year-old Deborah Jean Tihema are remanded in custody until April 12.
A 16-year-old boy also appeared – and has been remanded in the custody of Child Youth and Family Services.
