Marlborough Police are calling for a ‘stupid’ nail thrower to stop before someone gets seriously injured.

They have recorded two separate incidents on separate days this year where someone has thrown nails onto State-Highway one north of Blenheim.

Sergeant Barrie Greenall says the incidents on January 1st and 11th have led to at least 20 punctures to different vehicles.

However, he said it could have been much worse and if the person responsible keeps doing it, an accident could see them face some serious charges.

Sergeant Greenall said if a nail was to cause a fatal accident, the person responsible could face manslaughter charges

He and other road police in the area are bemused by the practise.

“It is mindless, it is stupid, and it is inherently dangerous, I fail to see why somebody would get gratification from doing this.”
