The mother of the man shot dead in South Wairarapa says her 鈥渁mazing, funny鈥 son was taken from her too early.
He was Doreion Hard, 23.
Two men have been charged with Hard鈥檚 death after the incident where shots were fired into the car he was in.
Hard鈥檚 obituary said he was a father-of-two and survived by a loving partner, three siblings and many cousins and friends.
His mother, Selena, said her son 鈥渓eft far too early鈥.
鈥淵ou were an amazing intelligent, loving, funny person鈥 I was so proud of you鈥 I only saw the best in you! I was so grateful to be your Mother."
She said Hard鈥檚 three siblings were 鈥渄eeply saddened鈥 and her own heart was 鈥渂roken鈥.
Doreion Hard, 23, has been named as the man who was shot in South Wairarapa on Saturday.
Detective Inspector John van den Heuvel said police were called at 4pm on Saturday when a vehicle was shot at in Featherston.
The car stopped shortly afterwards near the Carterton New World and Hard was found with a gunshot wound. He later died.
Police say two men, aged 23 and 25, are due to appear in Wellington District Court today.
Van den Heuvel said further charges against them are being considered.
鈥淥ur investigation continues, with one focus being to establish what other parties may have been involved in the incident.
鈥淲e can however say that police believe it involved parties known to each other, with no ongoing risk to the public.鈥
Mayor has had enough
Carterton Mayor Ron Mark told RNZ鈥檚 Morning Report that the shooting was brazen.
鈥淎 busy place on a Saturday - with mums, and families, and kids all around the supermarket in that shopping area - cars and going in and out - there to be a couple of thugs and idiots firing off multiple rounds,鈥 Mark told RNZ.
鈥淚t鈥檚 just unacceptable, totally unacceptable.鈥
Mark added there was 鈥渧ery little sympathy鈥 for people who shoot each other.
鈥淧eople have had a guts full, they鈥檙e over it.鈥
Police continue appeal for information
Van den Heuvel said people will continue to notice an increased police presence in the Wairarapa as they continue to make inquiries.
鈥淲e want to thank those people who have already come forward and shared valuable information, which has assisted with our inquiries to date.
鈥淧olice are still appealing to anyone who has information to please come and speak with us.鈥
If you can help, please contact police on 105 either online or over the phone.
Please reference Operation Ascot 鈥 reference number: 250322/8281.
鈥楧oesn鈥檛 define who we are鈥
Wairarapa MP Mike Butterick says a recent shooting was not acceptable.
鈥淚t doesn鈥檛 define who we are as a community,鈥 he told 九一星空无限.
鈥淲e鈥檙e a pretty strong community, we all look after each other and I鈥檓 sure people will wrap their support around those who have been impacted.鈥
In a social media post on Saturday night, Carterton Mayor Ron Mark said he was in regular contact with police.
鈥淭his was a targeted incident involving persons I have reason to believe are known to police.鈥
The mayor said the incident posed no threat to the safety of Carterton residents, and assured locals there was 鈥渘o reason for alarm鈥.
鈥淲hat matters now is that we do what we always do best - look out for one another.鈥
