A woman charged with being an accessory after the fact to the alleged murder of Richard Leman has pleaded not guilty.

Richard Leman鈥檚 body was found inside his own car, parked in a garage in Tyler St, Rangiora, on April 17. Police then began a homicide inquiry.

罢丑别听Herald聽earlier revealed that Leman鈥檚 body was dismembered and that when police found him, his torso was in the boot of his car with several parts of his body missing. It is believed he was shot.

On Friday, a 38-year-old woman made her first appearance in the High Court at Christchurch before Justice Cameron Mander charged with accessory to murder after the fact.

Through her lawyer, the woman pleaded not guilty. Her interim name suppression continues.

She was remanded on bail to appear again on August 25.

Members of Leman鈥檚 family were in court for the appearance.

Last week a 46-year-old man who is charged with murdering Leman on April 11, pleaded not guilty in the High Court at Christchurch before Justice Rachel Dunningham.

Detective Senior Sergeant Tania Jellyman earlier said police were able to confirm, with the blessing of Leman鈥檚 family, that some of his remains have not been recovered.

鈥淲e are releasing these details in the hope that we can provide some closure for Richard鈥檚 family,鈥 she said.

鈥淲e are not in a position to provide any further information in relation to this, however, this is understandably very distressing for Richard鈥檚 family.

鈥淲e would like to be able to recover the missing remains so his family can move forward from this tragedy.鈥

While one person had been charged with murder, police believed others were involved in his death.

鈥淲e have every confidence that someone in the Rangiora community knows what has happened here. We are urging you to do the right thing and come forward to speak to us.鈥

Leman鈥檚 sister, Nicky Leman, told the聽Herald聽after the man鈥檚 arrest that the last seven weeks since her brother first went missing until the arrest had been 鈥渢otal fear鈥.

鈥淚 haven鈥檛 been sleeping, I鈥檝e been getting up throughout the night checking my windows and doors and making sure all my children are in bed safe, it鈥檚 like I have not been sleeping. We鈥檙e all like that, we鈥檙e all a mess, all of us.

鈥淲e had no idea what was going on because the police don鈥檛 tell you anything because they鈥檝e got an investigation to do and then you don鈥檛 want to know because you don鈥檛 want to jeopardise anything, so it鈥檚 been a catch-22 situation, we want to know but then we don鈥檛 because we don鈥檛 want to compromise anything. If we talk to the wrong person we don鈥檛 want anything compromised because we want justice for Richard.鈥

Nicky Leman, who does not live in Christchurch, said it had been hard being in the same city knowing those responsible were 鈥渨alking around 鈥 breathing the same air as all of us鈥.

鈥淚t鈥檚 such a hard thing ... that is why today was a relief, first thing this morning it was a relief to get told they鈥檇 made an arrest.鈥

Leman was a beloved brother, son, and father to three boys - 鈥渉is babies鈥, Nicky Leman said.

鈥淗e was a funny guy, he made us laugh when we were down, he put a smile on our face. That was just Richard.鈥

She said the family had 鈥渘o clue鈥 why someone would want to harm Leman.

鈥淩ichard was friends with everybody, that was how he was. If you were down, you could鈥檝e been a complete stranger and if you were on the side of the road and if you were upset or crying or whatever, he would stop and say 鈥楢re you all right?鈥 and give you a hug and say 鈥榠s there anything I can do to help you?鈥 That鈥檚 the kind of guy he was.

鈥淓veryone was Richard鈥檚 friend, it was like he had an infectious personality where you just wanted to be around him.鈥

Nicky Leman said her parents were 鈥渘ot coping at all鈥. The couple also lost their oldest child to leukaemia, she said.

鈥淚 can鈥檛 come to terms with it, this is my little brother 鈥 every time I think about it I start to cry.鈥

She said the police had done an 鈥渁mazing job鈥 throughout their investigation.

鈥淚 think the police are amazing. They鈥檝e been brilliant with my parents, because my parents are elderly and they鈥檙e very unwell, and just the way they鈥檝e handled everything, I can鈥檛 speak highly enough of them.鈥

The family appealed to anyone who still had information they had not disclosed to speak up.

鈥淚f anybody knows anything, come forward to the police and give them the information so we can get justice for Richard and if there鈥檚 anybody else involved that the police get everybody involved, that鈥檚 it,鈥 she said.

鈥淭he police are on the right track and they鈥檙e doing their job and they鈥檙e absolute in the course that they鈥檙e taking and that gives us comfort.鈥
