Overflowing sewage caused by a 鈥渓arge blockage鈥 of fat, grease and rags forced organisers to cancel a Bryan Adams concert in Australia, citing a threat to the arena鈥檚 toilets.
The Canadian singer-songwriter鈥檚 Sunday night event fell victim to the sewers of Perth, Western Australia, 鈥渄ue to the risk of sewage backing up within the venue鈥檚 toilets鈥, the state water corporation said.
鈥淥ur crews are working to clear the large blockage of fat, grease and rags, which has caused several wastewater overflows at properties,鈥 it said in a statement on the night of the concert.
In an update on Monday, the water authority said the blockage 鈥渃ould not be easily dislodged鈥, with venue management taking the 鈥渋ncredibly tough decision to cancel the Bryan Adams concert鈥.
鈥淐ontingencies, including the use of sucker trucks, were considered, but the volume of wastewater generated by a capacity crowd of 16,000 people at the Arena was considered too great,鈥 it said.
鈥淲e can certainly understand people鈥檚 disappointment and frustration.鈥
Concert promoter Frontier Touring said the cancellation was 鈥渂itterly disappointing鈥 but out of Adams' control, and tickets would be refunded automatically.
