A date will be set this week for when the binding poll will be held in Hawke's Bay on amalgamation.
Hawke's Bay was the only region to be put forward by the Local Government Commission to merge five local councils into one super council.
Plans for Wellington and Northland were scrapped.
The Local Government Commission has received a petition with enough verified signatures on it to trigger a poll in Hawke's Bay.
Pro-amalgamation lobby group, A Better Hawke's Bay submitted the petition.
The Commission will now set a date, which will be held in late September.
People will receive voting papers in the mail, and everyone will have three-weeks to vote.
