Blockhouse Bay homicide: Police examine scene, no arrests made

A scene guard remains in place at the scene of a homicide in Blockhouse Bay this morning.

Police have cordoned off the Blockhouse Bay Tennis Club on Rathlin Street at 11.37am, where a person died yesterday morning.

鈥淯pon arrival, a man was located with critical injuries,鈥 police said in a statement yesterday.

鈥淪adly, despite efforts of emergency services, the man died at the scene.鈥

A tent has been put up in the carpark next to one of the club buildings, where a pool of blood was seen yesterday.

Police are still seeking a person involved in the incident.

鈥淥ur thoughts are with the victim鈥檚 family, and we are providing them with support at this difficult time.

鈥淧olice are now making inquiries to understand what has occurred.鈥

Police yesterday cordoned off the area around the club and recreational reserve.

A scene examination would be carried out over the following days, police said.

The blood was visible just outside the tennis courts next to a disposable vape. A police photographer, wearing a boiler suit, was focused on this area. Armed police were also at the scene.

A man working near the club told the Herald police had come to his work to investigate an alleged assault.

Officers told him they were 鈥渓ooking for someone鈥, he said.

Police said members of the public could expect to see an increased police presence in the Blockhouse Bay area while inquiries continued.

鈥淲e will be speaking to those who witnessed what has occurred and we encourage anyone with information who has not yet come forward to contact police as soon as possible,鈥 a police spokesperson said.
