Four injured, armed police swarm Pukekohe street after 'firearms incident'

Armed police have descended on a Pukekohe this afternoon and ordered residents to stay inside after a 鈥渇irearms incident鈥.

Four people have been treated for injuries after the incident at 1pm in Pukekohe, South Auckland, a Hato Hone St John spokesperson said.

Three people in a moderate condition and one in serious condition have been transported to hospital, they said.

St John responded with four ambulances, four rapid response vehicles and two managers.

A police spokesperson said officers were called to Birdwood Road East, Pukekohe at about 12.50pm after reports of a 鈥渇irearms incident鈥.

鈥淐ordons remain in place while inquiries are ongoing and locals can expect an increased police presence in the area for the time being.鈥

A video supplied to the听Herald听showed armed police gathered on Birdwood Rd in Pukekohe where a crowd of people could be seen standing close together.

A witness told the听Herald听they saw a police Eagle helicopter hovering over the street.

When they went outside they saw a swarm of armed police officers with dogs at the left end.

鈥淭he ambulance got here about 20 minutes ago.

鈥淧olice have put spikes on our road too. We have been told to stay inside.鈥

A resident said she heard several police cars come to her street.

鈥漈he whole night people were up there playing music and shouting their lungs out not considering the neighbours鈥 peace at all,鈥 they said.
