Police have launched a homicide investigation after a man was shot in an Auckland suburb overnight.
A major police presence remains on Selwyn St, Onehunga, this morning while police appeal for information on the violent crime.
Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Tony Darvill said police were called to the scene at about 9.45pm.
鈥淓mergency services attended and first aid was administered, however, he died at the scene.
鈥淚nquiries are now under way to establish the full circumstances of what has occurred.鈥

Darvill said a scene guard was in place overnight and a scene examination will take place this morning.
A Hato Hone St John spokesperson said the service was alerted to the incident just before 10pm.
鈥淲e sent one ambulance, one rapid response, and one manager.鈥
A man who lives close by said there was still a 鈥渓arge police presence鈥 on the street and a police officer told him someone had been shot.
He said he saw four gazebos and the forensic teams were conducting investigations while the street was cordoned off.
