House sales in the major centres in New Zealand continue to cool, but it's up in the regions.
The latest figures from realestate.co.nz shows asking prices either fell or remained stable in Auckland, Wellington, Canterbury, Waikato and Otago compared to the prior month.
Spokeswoman Vanessa Taylor said in contrast places like Northland, Central North Island, Bay of Plenty, Gisborne and Hawkes Bay were a hive of activity last month.
"Prices are increasing in those regions. We only saw one all time high this month which was in the Bay of Plenty region. Gisborne leads the charge at 19.5 per cent increase."
However, it appears Aucklanders can't be blamed for the prices increases.
It's been suggested Aucklanders buying up houses in the Bay of Plenty city heated the market there.
However, Taylor said looking at listings viewing data, it appears Aucklanders are less interested with the region than they were previously.
"We are now seeing those numbers of Aucklanders dwindling. Perhaps two or three years ago the Bay of Plenty was a more affordable option if they were looking for a lifestyle change or perhaps even commute."
