New Zealand is set to decide early next year on whether it will take more than 750 refugees a year.
It has been around 30 years since the figure was reviewed and Immigration Minister Michael Woodhouse said it is currently under review.
"We have a policy of reviewing the quota. Not only the total quantum, but which regions those refugees come from, the number of emergency places, the number of places for women, and so on. So there is a comprehensive process, of which the total quantum is but one thing."
