New Plymouth's Festival of Lights may be one of the casualties of the District Council deciding to keep its year-on-year rates increases low over the next 10 years.
Shortening the six-week event by a week, is one of the ways it's looking to cut costs.
It's also considering closing a library and swimming pool among other things.
Councillor Shaun Biesiek says the council will decide how it'll involve in the community in making these decisions at a meeting on Tuesday.
"Our rates, we always need to keep them affordable. We always need to look at saving, but at the end of the day if they present value for money, then people don't mind paying."
