A person is dead after a crash in Balclutha late last night, the seventh since Wednesday.
And there are indications of 鈥渟erious injuries鈥 after a single-vehicle crash in the this morning, with a section of State Highway 1 still closed after the 9.20am crash, police said.
One person has also been critically injured in a Marlborough crash overnight, and eight bobby calves were killed when they were struck on a highway.
The most recent crash, near Rangiahua Rd in the Far North settlement of H艒reke, has closed a section of SH1, with diversions in place, police said.
鈥淚nitial indications suggest there are serious injuries. The Serious Crash Unit has been advised ... motorists are advised to avoid the area and expect delays.鈥
The fatal crash involved one vehicle and took place just after 10.30am on Balclutha鈥檚 Gormack St, between Moir St and Barnego Rd.
鈥淭he sole occupant died at the scene. The Serious Crash Unit responded, and Gormack St will remain closed until mid-to-late afternoon while the scene is investigated.
鈥淚nquiries into the cause of the crash are ongoing.鈥
Just after midnight a crash near Blenheim left another person critically injured, police said.
Emergency services were called to the intersection of Chaytors and Neal roads at Spring Creek, 6km north of Blenheim, about 12.15am after being told a vehicle had rolled.
鈥淭he sole occupant of the car received critical injuries and was transported to hospital. The Serious Crash Unit has carried out a scene examination and inquiries into the crash are ongoing.鈥
And just before 6am today, police were told a vehicle had struck a herd of bobby calves on State Highway 25, near the intersection of Kapowai Rd, just outside the Coromandel Peninsula settlement of Coroglen, said.
Bobby calves are calves younger than 30 days old, and not with their mothers.
鈥淓ight calves were killed and one was injured. The highway was shut while the scene was cleared, however, it reopened by 8am.鈥
