Police are continuing to probe the 鈥渟uspicious鈥 death of a man found dead in a Pukekohe home, described by wh膩nau as 鈥渢he humblest man.鈥
Today police named the victim as Donnie Jacobus Anthony Houben, 48, who was found dead at an address on Times Pl on December 30.
Police confirmed the investigation into his death was continuing and said Houben鈥檚 family had requested privacy at this time.
Houben鈥檚 death was being treated as suspicious following results of a postmortem examination.
Many family members posted on social media messages mourning the death of Houben.
His son paid tribute to his father saying they were still coming to terms with the 鈥渟udden passing.鈥
鈥淥n behalf of the Houben/Hoeta family it鈥檚 with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved son, father, brother, Koro Donnie Jacobus Anthony Houben.
鈥淎s we are still coming with terms of our dad鈥檚 sudden passing, we will keep our whanau updated as we go,鈥 the son said.
One woman described Houben as 鈥渢he humblest man鈥 and claimed he had been 鈥渢aken out鈥.
鈥淪uch a sad way to be taken cuz now for the ones who done this come forward and put our Wh膩nau at ease not good at all,鈥 one woman said on social media.
Police seeking information
Police were in the Pukekohe neighbourhood going door-to-door on January 7, more than a week after Houben was found dead.
鈥淲e were home that day, our son heard screams just after midnight,鈥 a Pukekohe local said on social media.
One woman who said Houben was her wh膩nau told the Herald it wasn鈥檛 until 鈥渨ell after鈥 the man had died that police began talking to locals about the death.
She said she originally believed the man had died of a health-related incident, and described him as a 鈥渉armless, happy-go-lucky man鈥
One person who lived on the street where the man died said police had asked for his security camera footage following the incident.
Houben鈥檚 immediate wh膩nau declined to comment on his passing and said they were 鈥渟till grieving.鈥
