A Christchurch teenager has been charged with assault following an attack on an elderly man in New Brighton Mall in the early hours of this morning.
A 72-year-old man sustained serious facial injuries in the attack, and remains in Christchurch Hospital in a stable condition.
A 19-year-old will appear in the Christchurch District Court tomorrow.
Police have thanked local shop owners for their help while officers completed a scene examination.
