Two new digital tools have been launched for young t膩ne and w膩hine who want to stop smoking.
The TUA campaign鈥檚听听补苍诲听, chatbots available 24/7 on Facebook messenger, simulate human conversation by sending daily check-ins, tips and distractions to provide support through the first 30 days of stopping smoking.
鈥淗ine鈥檚 here to be the ultimate tuakana, sending tips, encouragement and funny videos to help you ride out those cravings. Have a rant with her if you need to too, she鈥檚 got your back!鈥 the campaign says.
Alongside the chatbots, the听听and social media pages offer a range of m膩tauranga M膩ori to help wh膩nau connect to themselves and te taiao (the natural environment), a H膩pai Te Hauora release says.
This includes knowledge of maramataka (the M膩ori lunar cycle), p奴r膩kau (stories and legends) and karakia 鈥渢o empower them in their daily lives on their smoke-free journey鈥.
H膩pai te Hauora CEO Jason Alexandar (Ng膩puhi) says t奴puna had 鈥渟harp intellect in creating new technologies鈥.
鈥淲hile smoking isn鈥檛 from here or belongs to us, we have the tools and creativity to find innovative solutions to be well. TUA is an example of that.鈥
听鈥淩angatahi can access immediate support on their terms and connect to other smoking support services through the chatbot,鈥 adds Kathrine Clarke, director of health promotion at Te Whatu Ora.
