Reactions from government leaders were pouring in shortly after a shooting at Donald Trump鈥檚 rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, Saturday afternoon, with Democrats and Republicans alike denouncing the violence.
鈥淭here is no place in America for this kind of violence,鈥 President Joe Biden said in remarks from the Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, police department. 鈥淚t鈥檚 sick. It cannot be like this. We cannot condone this.鈥
Biden, the presumptive Democratic nominee to face Trump in November鈥檚 general election, said he did not have all the details on others in the audience who might have been injured. When asked whether he thought the shooting was an assassination attempt, Biden said, 鈥淚 have an opinion, but I don鈥檛 have all the facts.鈥

Trump鈥檚 rally 鈥渟hould have been able to be conducted peacefully without any problem,鈥 said Biden, who is spending the weekend at his beach house in Rehoboth Beach.
He said he was returning to his phone to get an updated briefing from federal agencies.
鈥淚 hope I get to speak to him tonight,鈥 Biden said as he ended his remarks.
On social media, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (Democrat, NY) said he was sending his 鈥渢houghts and prayers鈥 to Trump.
鈥淚 am thankful for the decisive law enforcement response. America is a democracy. Political violence of any kind is never acceptable,鈥 he posted on X.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (Republican, Louisiana) also thanked law enforcement and offered his prayers.
鈥淭his horrific act of political violence at a peaceful campaign rally has no place in this country and should be unanimously and forcefully condemned,鈥 Johnson tweeted.

A spokesperson for Biden鈥檚 campaign, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to preview plans, said the team was 鈥渨orking to pull down our television ads as quickly as possible.鈥
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (Republican, Kentucky) called the shooting 鈥渄espicable鈥.
鈥淭onight, all Americans are grateful that President Trump appears to be fine after a despicable attack on a peaceful rally,鈥 he tweeted. 鈥淲e appreciate the swift work of the Secret Service and other law enforcement.鈥

Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer (Democrat, NY) said he was 鈥渞elieved鈥 that Trump was declared safe.
鈥淚 am horrified by what happened at the Trump rally in Pennsylvania and relieved that former President Trump is safe,鈥 Schumer posted on X. 鈥淧olitical violence has no place in our country.鈥
Former President George W Bush, a Republican, called the shooting 鈥渃owardly.鈥
Blood could be seen near Donald Trump's ear as he was rushed from the stage at a Pennsylvania rally.
鈥淟aura and I are grateful that President Trump is safe following the cowardly attack on his life,鈥 he said on X. 鈥淎nd we commend the men and women of the Secret Service for their speedy response.鈥
Vice-president Kamala Harris said she was 鈥渞elieved that he is not seriously injured.鈥
鈥淲e are praying for him, his family, and all those who have been injured and impacted by this senseless shooting,鈥 she posted on X. 鈥溾 We must all condemn this abhorrent act and do our part to ensure that it does not lead to more violence.鈥
