Ex-Green MP Darleen Tana claims leaks of the report detailing the investigation of migrant exploitation allegations against her were intended to 鈥減ressure鈥 her.
She has also confirmed she won鈥檛 be pursuing a further inquiry concerning the now-concluded investigation, but isn鈥檛 yet revealing whether she will stay on as an independent MP after resigning from the Green Party.
On Monday, Green Party co-leader Chl枚e Swarbrick announced Tana鈥檚 resignation from the party following a months-long investigation regarding allegations facing Tana鈥檚 husband, Christian Hoff-Nielsen, and staff working at his E-bike business. Media reports earlier this year suggested Tana knew of the allegations but didn鈥檛 inform the party.
Tana this week denied the report proved migrant exploitation occurred. Hoff-Nielsen has also denied the allegations.
The full report is yet to be released by the Green Party. Swarbrick said she would wait until those named in the report had been consulted.
Leaked sections of investigator Rachel Burt鈥檚 report into the matter, launched by the Green Party in March, revealed Burt deemed it 鈥渕ore likely than not鈥 Tana was aware of complaints against her husband鈥檚 business, according to RNZ.
It also revealed Burt considered Tana鈥檚 credibility was 鈥渟ignificantly compromised鈥 based on the information she provided during the investigation.
Burt determined Hoff-Nielsen鈥檚 evidence 鈥渢ended to obfuscate rather than elucidate鈥 and didn鈥檛 provide a 鈥渃oherent or consistent verbal account鈥 - two of the several difficulties Burt said she encountered through the 114 days of the investigation.
On Monday, Swarbrick urged Tana to resign from Parliament altogether, arguing her presence would distract from the party鈥檚 objectives. Swarbrick had remained vague on whether the party would utilise the so-called waka jumping legislation to force her out of Parliament, something the Greens had historically opposed.
In response to questions from the Herald, Tana claimed the leaks were intended to pressure her but she didn鈥檛 speculate on who was behind them.
鈥淭he leak of the investigation report or part of it appears to be another attempt to pressure me,鈥 she said.

She reiterated her previous comments that the report didn鈥檛 determine whether migrant worker exploitation had occurred and 鈥渟tatements made by the party to this effect have no foundation鈥.
The party hadn鈥檛 publicly alleged Tana had played a role in exploitation. Swarbrick had said Tana鈥檚 actions had fallen short of expectations set for Green MPs.
Tana wouldn鈥檛 offer a view on Burt鈥檚 findings about her husband.
鈥...they are her insights, not mine. Nor can I speak for my husband 鈥 he is his own person and how he engaged in the process was entirely up to him.
鈥淭his speaks to the heart of this investigation: he makes his own decisions, about his business. He doesn鈥檛 have any obligation to disclose that information to me.鈥
In her report, Burt identified key difficulties in the investigation process, including two complainants not wanting to meet her 鈥渁t the outset鈥 and only providing certain documents, and people she deemed relevant not wanting to be interviewed.
Tana believed those difficulties 鈥渨ithout a doubt influenced the reliability of the findings鈥.
鈥淲hat I can say is that I engaged in this process openly, sincerely, and in a manner that reflects my values as wahine M膩ori and what I understand to be the values of the Green Party.鈥

Asked if she would launch her own inquiry into the investigation, Tana said she didn鈥檛 think it was worth it.
鈥淓nough of taxpayers鈥 hard-earned money has been wasted on an investigation that has ultimately determined it is 鈥渕ore likely than not鈥 that my husband told me something.
鈥淚 have no intention on calling an investigation into an investigation, however flawed it might be. We need to draw a line underneath it and move on.鈥
It was previously reported more than $43,000 of taxpayers鈥 money had been spent, but the total figure hadn鈥檛 been released by the Green Party.
She didn鈥檛 elaborate on whether she would remain in Parliament as an independent MP, saying she was taking time to consider the report.
鈥淚 gave the Green Party my utmost patience throughout the investigative process. I am disappointed they are not extending the same patience with me.鈥
Green Party whip Ricardo Men茅ndez March said he could 鈥渃ategorically rule out鈥 it was the party that leaked the report.
鈥淲e take privacy obligations very seriously and have been in touch with the Privacy Commissioner in regards to the leak of the Executive Summary while consultation with named parties was ongoing. We have subsequently informed all implicated parties,鈥 Men茅ndez March said.
In response to Tana鈥檚 criticism of the party鈥檚 actions after receiving the report, Men茅ndez March argued the party had a 鈥渄uty to act鈥.
鈥淔ollowing Darleen鈥檚 decision to resign from the party, we had an obligation to inform the public of the change to our caucus,鈥 he said.
鈥淭he report鈥檚 findings were also such that [the] caucus lost confidence in Darleen as a Green Party MP. This is why [the] caucus was in unanimous agreement that we request Darleen鈥檚 resignation from Parliament.
鈥淪he has had a number of months to reflect on her actions since allegations first surfaced. The public deserves a decision from her and it is high time she showed some accountability.鈥
