Mea Motu speaks with conviction when addressing her world title fight against IBF and WBO super bantamweight champion Ellie Scotney in Nottingham on January 26.

There are no maybes, ifs or buts about whether she鈥檒l add to her belt collection, made up of the isolated IBO title, but she鈥檚 certain she can unify the gold.

鈥淐huck me in the ring right now, I鈥檓 ready,鈥 Motu told 九一星空无限talk ZB. 鈥淭hat鈥檚 how badly I want to get in there.

鈥淭he closer it gets, the more frustrating it is for me because I get so excited. It鈥檚 what I love doing.鈥

The unbeaten 20-0 fighter out of West Auckland鈥檚 Peach Boxing stable has had to exercise patience to get a crack at the titles. The bout, initially scheduled for October 27 last year, was postponed due to an undisclosed injury to Scotney, who also holds a perfect record of 9-0.

It鈥檚 a delay that could cost the Englishwoman her grip on the gold.

鈥淪he should鈥檝e fought me then, that probably would鈥檝e been the best time,鈥 Motu says.

鈥淚t gave me more time to focus on me, get my health right, get everything right and execute. Now I鈥檓 in my best shape, I鈥檓 the strongest and fittest I鈥檝e been, so mentally and physically, I鈥檓 locked in and ready to go.鈥

Motu鈥檚 belief rings loud in the quiet setting of coach Isaac Peach鈥檚 backyard gym in Henderson Valley. But it鈥檚 one that had to be ingrained in the Pukepoto fighter when she first joined the Peach Boxing stable in 2020.

鈥淓veryone says I sacrificed alone, but it hasn鈥檛 been alone. My whole team has sacrificed with me. For the last four years, they鈥檝e pulled me, pushed me and mate, if only you knew what I鈥檝e been through and the amount of times I wanted to give up.

鈥淚 would doubt myself so many times and they would be like, 鈥漀o, you鈥檝e got this鈥, so I鈥檓 so blessed and grateful to have such an awesome team.鈥

Peach 鈥 who鈥檚 previously had former cruiserweight David Light and middleweight Andrei Mikhailovich compete for world titles 鈥 has played a key role in Motu鈥檚 growth in confidence in recent years.

鈥淭he fighters we have and the environment we鈥檝e got, that鈥檚 the power of what we do. What she鈥檚 achieved is amazing and this is going to cap it off.

鈥淭o fight Ellie Scotney in England, this was the goal we set a couple of years ago and we鈥檙e finally getting a shot at it.鈥

Motu is nearing the end of a gruelling 10-week training camp, which included sparring with WBA bantamweight champion Cherneka 鈥淪ugar Neekz鈥 Johnson 鈥 who fought Scotney in 2023.

But the preparation has come at a cost, with Motu foregoing time with her family over the Christmas break in order to prioritise her biggest bout to date.

鈥淚鈥檝e sacrificed a lot and to be away from your family and friends has been tough. I鈥檝e only had my coach and his family and that鈥檚 all it鈥檚 really been.

鈥淭hey [Motu鈥檚 children] haven鈥檛 been with me in this camp, they鈥檝e been with my family, but they want the best for me, and they believe in me and they said when I come home, they鈥檒l be waiting for me at the airport.鈥

鈥淚t鈥檚 felt like a lonely camp, but I鈥檓 willing to do everything that I can do to bring back those belts. I鈥檓 willing to die.鈥
