The man鈥檚 body was found on Mitimiti Beach by a member of the public about 2.30pm.
The r膩hui, imposed by the hap奴 of Mitimiti, Whangap膿, and Pawarenga, will extend from Karapiti to Te Pahi and will end on Sunday.
Organisers of the M膩tihetihe Marae annual fishing competition said the r膩hui would not affect the event, which starts on December 28.
The event will start with a karakia as a mark of respect for the man and his family.
police have been unable to identify him and are asking for the public鈥檚 help.
