US President Donald Trump set a Saturday deadline for all hostages to be released from Gaza, saying that otherwise 鈥渁ll hell鈥 would break out and he would call for the Israel-Hamas ceasefire to be cancelled.
Trump鈥檚 latest extraordinary intervention in the Middle East came after Hamas threatened to postpone any further hostage-prisoner exchanges, placing the fragile six-week truce that took effect on January 19 at risk.
Describing Hamas鈥 move as 鈥渢errible鈥, Trump told reporters in the Oval Office that he would 鈥渓et that be Israel鈥檚 decision鈥 on what should ultimately happen to the ceasefire.
鈥淏ut as far as I鈥檓 concerned, if all of the hostages aren鈥檛 returned by Saturday 12 o鈥檆lock 鈥 I think it鈥檚 an appropriate time 鈥 I would say cancel it and all bets are off and let hell break out,鈥 Trump said.
Trump said that 鈥渁ll鈥 the remaining hostages should be freed, 鈥渘ot in dribs and drabs, not two and one and three and four and two鈥.
鈥淲e want them all back. I鈥檓 speaking for myself. Israel can override it, but for myself, Saturday at 12 o鈥檆lock 鈥 and if they鈥檙e not here, all hell is going to break out.鈥
Trump said he would probably speak to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the timeline he had just proposed.
He did not elaborate on what the threat entailed, saying only that 鈥淗amas will find out what I mean鈥. Asked if he was ruling out the potential involvement of US forces, Trump replied: 鈥淲e鈥檒l see what happens.鈥
The US President also threatened to halt aid to allies Jordan and Egypt if they refuse to take in Palestinians under his controversial plan for the United States to 鈥渢ake over鈥 Gaza.

鈥淚f they don鈥檛 agree, I would conceivably withhold it.鈥
Trump is due to meet Jordan鈥檚 King Abdullah II in Washington this week.
The threat came after Egypt rejected earlier on Monday 鈥渁ny compromise鈥 that would infringe on Palestinians' rights, in a statement issued after Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty met with his US counterpart in Washington.
Trump earlier said in an interview with Fox 九一星空无限 Channel鈥檚 Bret Baier that Palestinians would have no right of return to Gaza under his US takeover plan, which he unveiled in a joint press conference with Netanyahu last week.
鈥淣o, they wouldn鈥檛, because they鈥檙e going to have much better housing,鈥 Trump said when Baier asked if the Palestinians would have the right to return to the enclave, most of which has been reduced to rubble by Israel鈥檚 military since October 2023.
鈥淚n other words, I鈥檓 talking about building a permanent place for them because if they have to return now, it鈥檒l be years before you could ever 鈥 it鈥檚 not habitable.鈥
