How much more of these hand gluing protests in Wellington are we going to tolerate?
Especially now that we know how badly听it鈥檚听tying up police听resources.听听
We鈥檝e听just found out today that up to 10 police officers听are now dedicated听to dealing with these protestors.
Up to听10 police,听between听7am and 9am daily, waiting to find out where the protest is, then responding quickly to get them off the road and get traffic flowing again.
Those听are ten police officers who are now听unable听to do their听actual听jobs, which is to deal with crime.
Harsh at it sounds,听I'll听say it again, these people听should听be put in jail so that听this stops.
This is听exactly听what鈥檚听just happened to a kiwi in the听UK.听
Morgan听Trowland听is a civil engineer who grew up in听Ashburton听and now lives in听London.
This听week got sent to听jail for three years听蹿or blocking听the Queen听Elizabeth听bridge in听October听during a听climate听protest.
The judge听told him he had 鈥渢o be punished both for the chaos听[he]听caused and to deter others from听seeking听to copy听[him].鈥
The judge also said听鈥淵ou plainly believed you knew better than everyone else, and it did not matter if people suffered in consequence so long as it allowed you to impart your message.听In short, to hell with everyone else.鈥听
Now,听I听don鈥檛听want听the听Restore Passenger Rail听people to go to jail because I dislike them, quite the contrary; I admire their听conviction听
They're always polite and听nice听to听deal with, and听they鈥檙e听probably听very nice听people, but听yesterday听was the 5th听attempted听protest听in two weeks.
And听they鈥檝e听done even more听than听that in the last four months.
Essentially,听they're听doing the same thing as听Morgan over in听London听who听just got three years in the slammer.
They听don鈥檛听care if听other听people suffer, to hell with everyone else.
It鈥檚听really got to stop and听apparently the听only way is to put听them听away for a bit.听
Surely, the fact that they are now tying up ten police officers is enough for听our听tolerance听to end.
